The Crown is the English translation of Mukut (1908), which was a dramatised version of the short story by the same name. This play was also written for his students and was staged in 1909. Tagore translated it by taking the book in his hand and dictating the translation to C.F. Andrews. It was posthumously published in 1983.
King and Rebel was intended to be used as material for extra-curricular exercises for the students of Santiniketan, supplementing their regular teaching of English and to create interest in dramatics. It was staged in April 1913 under the direction of Ajit Kumar Chakravarti.
