Rabindranath Tagore was not just a poet, he was also a popular writer of fiction, essays and plays. He set his songs to music and two of them are the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.
Then in his sixties he became an acclaimed painter. Tagore also founded Santiniketan, as an idealistic school that later became the Visva Bharati University.
Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, he was called the ‘greatest poet of the age’ by Mahatma Gandhi.
Magnificent poet, humanist and dreamer, Tagore remains the beloved voice of his land.
